نقصان برائے نقصان
ایک چیز یہ ہوتی ہے کہ کوئی کسی کو نقصان پہنچاتا ہے اپنے فائدے کے لیے۔ چلیں اس نے خود کوئی فائدہ تو اٹھایا۔
مگر ایک اور چیز ہوتی ہے کہ کوئی کسی کو نقصان پہنچاتا ہے، مگر خود اسے کوئی فائدہ نہیں ہوتا۔
تو سوال پیدا ہوتا ہے کہ پھر نقصان کیوں پہنچایا؟
یہی چیز ہے جو اب تک مجھے سمجھ میں نہیں آ رہی تھی۔ مگر اب مجھے یقین ہو گیا ہے کہ پاکستان کو نقصان پہنچایا جا رہا ہے، تو اس میں ہونے والی بہت سی چیزوں میں نقصان پہنچانے والے کو کوئی فائدہ نہیں مل رہا۔ وہ پاکستان کو بس نقصان پہنچانے کی خاطر نقصان پہنچا رہا ہے۔
اور پاکستان سے میری مراد پاکستان کے شہری ہیں۔ خاص طور پر عام شہری۔ نقصان انھیں پہنچ رہا ہے۔

What should we (the civil society) be doing in India and Pakistan? A conversation between an Indian and a Pakistani
Jayant Bhandari is an Indian who left India and settled in Canada. I never met him. He’s a Facebook friend. His posts generate thoughtful discussions and that’s how we both found each other in a good friendly relation.
I did try to leave Pakistan during my teen years, and failed. Later I abandoned the idea of leaving the country for obvious “reasons.” I wanted to do my bit to free our people from the pseudo shackles made of unfounded notions by the Riyasati Ashrafiya (ریاستی اشرافیہ) of Pakistan.
What is common between Jayant and I is the deep concern for the freedom, well-being and happiness of our respective people. And no doubt for the larger humanity too.

ووٹ کو عزت دو ۔ ۔ ۔ یا ووٹر کو عزت دو

فرض کیجیے نواز شریف آج وزیرِ اعظم ہوتے، تو اس سے عام شہری کو بھلا کیا فرق پڑ جاتا۔
اور کیا اس صورت میں مسلم لیگ ن ’’ووٹ کو عزت دو‘‘ کا بیانیہ زبان پر لاتی۔ قطعاً نہیں۔ سب کچھ حسبِ معمول چل رہا ہوتا اور راوی چین ہی چین لکھتا۔
کیونکہ نواز شریف اب وزیرِ اعظم نہیں، لہٰذا، یہ بیانیہ چلایا جا رہا ہے کہ ووٹ کو عزت دو۔ اس سے صاف مراد یہ ہے کہ جسے ووٹ ملیں، اسے حکومت کرنے دو۔ وہ جیسے چاہے، اسے ویسے حکومت کرنے دو۔
سوال یہ ہے کہ اب تک پاکستان میں اتنی حکومتیں بنیں بگڑیں، مگر کیا کسی حکومت نے ’’ووٹر کو عزت دو‘‘ کی طرف توجہ دی۔
کسی نے بھی نہیں۔
یہ تو اب چونکہ خود نواز شریف پر افتاد آن پڑی ہے، سو انھیں ’’ووٹ کو عزت دو‘‘ کا معاملہ یاد آ گیا ہے۔

The 21st point: Overhaul the state
Presently there is happening quite a serious debate on the 20 points envisaged in the National Action Plan. Its thrust is on two points:
i) All these measures should have been in their place since long as a matter of routine, probably from the day first when Pakistan came to exist; and,
ii) Due to the past negligence of the governments, doubts and questions are being raised about the efficacy of these measures.
The argument the present writer aims to make is a bit different; he wants to propose a 21st point to be added to the NAP, which focuses on overhauling the state. Let’s be precise in judging: It’s the state that played havoc with the society of Pakistan, and now
